Captûre

Established in 2008, Captûre is inspired by California’s frontier spirit while staying true to time-honored winemaking traditions. Our origins are rooted in the far reaches of the Mayacamas Mountains, seeking out remote high-elevation vineyards in Sonoma, Napa, and Lake Counties, always pushing toward the next peak.

The volcanic Mayacamas Mountain range runs 52 miles southeast from Mendocino County, shearing through Lake, Sonoma, and Napa Counties on its way to Carneros and the SF bay. Rich in winegrowing history, winemaking in these mountains dates back to the 1860s. Captûre targets vineyards within Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak, Alexander Valley and Lake County—appellations at the untamed edges of mainstream wine regions that see more wildlife visitors than human ones.

In 2013, Captûre took on the rough peaks of the Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak AVA to plant a new estate vineyard. With elevations ranging from 1,600 to 3,000 feet, this is the highest-elevation winegrowing appellation in the whole Mayacamas Mountains, and one of the most desolate.

Estate Vineyard

Our vineyard was planted in 2013 high above the fog line between 2,526 and 2,866 feet of elevation, just shy of the peak. At this height we source Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from 16 blocks, with a variety of clonal selections, that allow us to capture the unique qualities of this mountain fruit. From this site we produce a single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon that truly represent this unique terroir.

The Pine Mountain-Cloverdale peak offers an unusual shift in climate with cooler days and warmer nights that produces a compact growing season. While bud break is delayed initially, the increased sun exposure at these elevations, compared to the valley floor, plus the warmer evening temperatures allow the vines to grow steadily and ripen to perfection while retaining an abundance of natural acidity.

The Wine

Captûre Estate Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon: Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak
The Cabernet is a blend of the finest blocks that traverse the ridge line atop the mountain. Predominantly Cab with a splash of merlot, the wine exudes red fruits, some wild bramble, braced with distinguished mountain tannins. The mouthfeel is firm yet elegant with an endless finish.

Captûre Estate Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc: Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak
Our Captûre Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak Sauvignon Blanc is among the highest elevation Sauvignon Blanc vineyards in California. This allows us to create a truly unique expression of mountain fruit that really should not be missed. Soft aromas and rich dynamic flavors gather in the glass while a delicate minerality and perfect acidity complete the experience.
